State Bank of India held an EGM on 15 May 2026 to elect seven directors to its Central Board under Section 19(c) of the SBI Act, 1955. Out of seven resolutions, four candidates were declared elected: Dr. Sandhya Shekhar, Shri K.R. Ashok, Shri Khurshed Rustom Dordi, and Shri Sandeep Natwarlal Shah — each for a three-year term from 26 June 2026 to 25 June 2029. Three candidates — Shri Arun Ananth Kamath, Shri Deepak Arora, and Shri Sanjay Kapoor — failed to secure passage. Voting was overwhelmingly via e-voting from public institutions, with promoter group abstaining entirely. Turnout was very low overall (less than 2% of outstanding shares), but the four winning candidates received between 35.8 million and 53.4 million votes in their favour.
Four new directors joining the Central Board strengthens the board's composition. The failure of three candidates to pass may reflect divergent shareholder views on those nominees. The low promoter participation and thin institutional turnout mean the mandate is based on a narrow shareholder base, which is routine for PSU banks but worth monitoring for governance dynamics.
