The New India Assurance Company has received a Show Cause Notice (DRC-01) dated 21 August 2025 from the Office of the Assistant Commissioner, New Delhi, under Section 73 of the CGST/DLGST Act 2017. The notice alleges a GST demand of Rs. 73,53,97,394 (about Rs. 73.54 crore), including tax, interest, and penalty, for the financial year April 2021 to March 2022. The issues raised include excess claim of Input Tax Credit (ITC), ITC reversal on non-business and exempt supplies, under-declaration of ineligible ITC, and ITC claimed from cancelled dealers, return defaulters, and tax non-payers. The company has stated it believes it has a strong case to defend on merits and, on the advice of its tax consultants, is preparing a detailed reply to be filed with the Adjudicating Authority. The disclosure has been made under SEBI Listing Regulations.
Although the company has stated there is no material impact on its financial or operational activities, this represents a contingent tax liability of about Rs. 73.54 crore. Investors should monitor the outcome of the adjudication, as an unfavourable ruling could affect future earnings, though the management is confident of a favourable defence.
