South Indian Bank has announced a planned change at the top of its board. Mr. V J Kurian, the Non-Executive Part Time Chairman and Independent Director, will retire on March 22, 2026 after completing his term. From March 23, 2026, Mr. Jose Joseph Kattoor, aged 62, will take over the same role for a three-year term. Mr. Kattoor is a former Executive Director of the Reserve Bank of India with over 30 years of RBI experience and has been serving as an Independent Director of the Bank since July 2024. The transition is seamless as the successor is already familiar with the bank. No governance concerns have been flagged in the disclosure.
This is an orderly, planned succession of the part-time chairman role with no disruption to operations. The incoming chairman's strong regulatory background at RBI may be viewed positively by investors, while the continuity (successor already on the board) should keep strategic direction stable.
