UCO Bank received a favorable appellate order regarding a GST demand dispute. The original demand of ₹1,473.48 crore passed by the Additional Commissioner, CGST, Mumbai South Commissionerate has been substantially reduced to ₹4.86 crore. The Bank had filed an appeal before the Commissioner of GST & CX (Appeals-I), Mumbai, which was disposed of on April 24, 2026, with the order received on May 4, 2026. The reduced demand includes applicable interest and penalty as per the CGST Act, 2017. The Bank is currently evaluating the order to determine next steps.
This is a highly positive development for UCO Bank as the GST liability has been reduced by over 99%, from nearly ₹1,473 crore to under ₹5 crore, significantly reducing the financial burden on the Bank.
