Union Bank of India has appointed Smt. Sowmya Sridhar as the new Chief Risk Officer (CRO) effective 22nd May 2026. She succeeds Shri Ashwini Kumar Ramakrishna Chowdhary, who completed his 3-year contractual tenure on 21st May 2026. Sowmya Sridhar, who joined the bank in 1995 as a Scale I Officer, brings over 30 years of banking experience across credit, finance, accounts, compliance, and risk functions. She is a certified Financial Risk Manager (FRM) from GARP and has 19 years of experience in risk management, most recently serving in Risk Management since December 2025. Her appointment is for a tenure extending up to 31st August 2029.
This is a routine leadership transition at the senior management level following the completion of the previous CRO's term. The appointment of an internal candidate with extensive risk management experience is expected to ensure continuity in the bank's risk governance framework with minimal disruption.
