Union Bank of India reported its Q1FY26 (quarter ended June 30, 2025) results with net profit of ₹4,116 crore, up 11.87% year-on-year but down 17.44% sequentially from Q4FY25. Total business stood at ₹22,14,422 crore, growing 5.01% YoY, with gross advances up 6.83% to ₹9,74,489 crore and deposits up 3.63% to ₹12,39,933 crore. The RAM segment (Retail, Agriculture, MSME) grew 10.34% YoY, led by strong retail advances growth of 25.63%. Asset quality improved notably with Gross NPA falling 102 bps to 3.52% and Net NPA at 0.62%. Capital ratios strengthened with CRAR at 18.30% and CET-1 at 15.30%. However, Net Interest Income declined 3.18% YoY and NIM compressed 29 bps to 2.76%, while Cost-to-Income ratio worsened sharply to 49.19%.
Mixed signals for shareholders — strong YoY profit growth, improving asset quality and capital position are positives, but QoQ profit decline, NIM compression, rising cost-to-income ratio, and weak NII suggest margin pressure. Stock may react cautiously as positives are partly offset by operational concerns.
