ICRA has reaffirmed its highest credit ratings on Union Bank of India's instruments: [ICRA]AAA (Stable) on Basel III Tier II bonds worth Rs. 5,200 crore and [ICRA]A1+ on the Certificates of Deposit programme worth Rs. 15,000 crore. One Rs. 1,000 crore Tier II bond rating has been withdrawn after the instrument was fully redeemed on its first call option date (Sep 16, 2025). The reaffirmation reflects Union Bank's strong position as the fifth-largest public sector bank, with healthy capital levels (CET I at 15.30%, CRAR at 18.30%), improving asset quality (gross NPA down to 3.52% from 4.76% in FY2024), and continued sovereign ownership (GoI holds 74.76%).
No negative impact for shareholders — ratings remain at the highest level (AAA/A1+) with a Stable outlook, signaling continued strong creditworthiness. The redemption of the Rs. 1,000 crore bond is a routine liability management action and does not affect the bank's financial position.
