GLAS Agency (Hong Kong) has disclosed creation of encumbrance over 2,204,724,753 shares of Vedanta Aluminium Metal Limited (56.38% of share capital) held by promoter Vedanta Resources Ltd via subsidiaries. This is under a new USD 1 billion facility agreement dated 15 July 2026, arranged by Citigroup and Standard Chartered Bank. Shares were already encumbered under a prior facility, so total encumbrance remains at 56.38%. Promoter group must retain at least 50.1% ownership in VAML.
Large pledge on promoter-held shares raises default risk for parent Vedanta Resources; additional facility increases leverage at promoter level.
