The Bombay High Court Division Bench, by order dated July 16, 2025, allowed two appeals filed by Tilaknagar Industries Limited (TIL) against Allied Blenders and Distillers Limited (ABDL). The court set aside the earlier February 7, 2025 order that had permitted ABDL to introduce products under the 'MANSION HOUSE' trademark in West Bengal. ABDL and related parties must now continue the status quo of not introducing products in India under the 'MANSION HOUSE' and 'SAVOY CLUB' marks until the final decision in the underlying suit. ABDL has stated it is considering challenging the order. The court also dismissed a related appeal (No. 66 of 2012) filed by UTO Nederland, while clarifying that its findings are prima facie and the trial court should decide the main suit expeditiously without being influenced by them.
This is an adverse development for ABDL as it reverses a favorable ruling from February 2025 and keeps the company barred from launching products under two valuable liquor brands in India.
