Quarterly Results
Quarterly results are the financial statements every listed Indian company must publish for each three-month period — revenue, expenses, profit and earnings per share — approved by its board and filed with the stock exchanges.
Under SEBI's LODR regulations, listed companies must file quarterly results within 45 days of the quarter ending (the final quarter gets more time, since it is filed along with the audited full-year results). The numbers are approved at a board meeting that is intimated to the exchanges in advance, then published on NSE/BSE the same day — which is why results usually hit the market on known dates, often after market hours.
A results filing packs several things at once: the profit-and-loss statement for the quarter, comparisons against the same quarter last year (YoY) and the previous quarter (QoQ), segment revenue for diversified companies, and often a limited-review report from the auditor. Companies with subsidiaries report both consolidated and standalone versions.
Reading results well means reading against expectations, not in isolation. A company can grow profit 30% and still fall if the street expected 50%; a loss-making company can rally on a smaller-than-feared loss. Margins, one-off items (asset sales, write-backs, exceptional costs) and the demand commentary in the accompanying press release often matter more than the headline profit number.
How stocks tend to react
Results days are among the most reaction-heavy events for any stock. The move typically reflects the gap between reported numbers and expectations, and can reverse as analysts digest the fine print — the initial minutes' move and the multi-day move often differ.
MarketPing measures this instead of guessing: every analysed announcement carries the stock's actual price reaction across 14 horizons, and the Reaction Lab aggregates how each category of announcement has historically moved stocks.
