Asian Paints reported a weak Q1 FY26 with consolidated net sales flat at Rs. 8,924 crores (down 0.2% YoY) and standalone net sales at Rs. 7,849 crores (down 1.2% YoY). Consolidated profit after tax fell 6% to Rs. 1,099.8 crores, while standalone PAT declined 7.5% to Rs. 1,099.6 crores. The domestic decorative business saw 3.9% volume growth but a 1.2% revenue decline due to subdued demand, early monsoon, and product mix shift. Operating margins compressed by 70 basis points to 19.4% (standalone) on higher sales and marketing spends. The international business was a bright spot, growing 8.4% (17.5% in constant currency), led by UAE, Egypt, and Asian markets. The company also acquired the remaining 40% stake in White Teak for Rs. 188 crores, making it a wholly owned subsidiary.
Weak Q1 with declining revenue, profit, and margins reflects ongoing demand pressures in the core domestic decorative paints business. The margin compression and muted topline may weigh on investor sentiment in the near term, though international growth and strategic acquisitions like White Teak signal long-term diversification efforts.
