Asian Paints reported Q1 FY26 results with standalone net sales of Rs. 7,849 crores, down 1.2% year-on-year, and consolidated net sales of Rs. 8,924 crores, down 0.2%. Standalone net profit fell 7.5% to Rs. 1,100 crores, while consolidated profit after tax declined 5.9% to Rs. 1,117 crores. Operating margins came under pressure, with standalone PBDIT margin at 19.4% (down 70 basis points) and consolidated PBDIT margin at 18.2% (down from 18.9%). The domestic decorative paints business posted volume growth of 3.9% but revenue fell 1.2% due to subdued demand, early monsoon, and a shift in product mix. International business was a bright spot with 8.4% revenue growth, driven by strong performance in the Middle East and South Asia.
Soft quarterly numbers with declining revenue and margin compression may weigh on the stock in the short term, especially given the dominance of the paints franchise in investor sentiment. However, continued volume growth in domestic decorative paints and robust international expansion provide some reassurance on long-term growth prospects.
