Avenue Supermarts (DMART) has been directed to pay a penalty of Rs. 10 Lakhs by the Adjudication Officer and Joint Commissioner (Food), Food and Drug Administration, Thane, Maharashtra, for violation of certain provisions of the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006. The violation relates to the alleged misleading/misbranding of a food product manufactured by an FMCG company and sold at one of DMART's stores. Penalty has also been imposed on the manufacturer, distributor, and marketer of the product. The manufacturer plans to contest the levy, and if unsuccessful, will bear the penalty imposed on DMART. The order was received on 14th July 2025.
