Bajaj Steel Industries reported a sharp year-on-year revenue decline in Q1 FY26. Standalone revenue from operations fell to Rs 9,295 lacs from Rs 11,526 lacs in Q1 FY25, a drop of about 19%. Consolidated revenue dropped even more steeply, to Rs 10,753 lacs from Rs 14,101 lacs, a fall of roughly 24%. Standalone net profit after tax stood at Rs 498 lacs versus Rs 2,916 lacs in the year-ago quarter, but the prior-year figure included an exceptional item of Rs 2,652 lacs (dividend received from US subsidiary Bajaj Coneagle LLC). Excluding that one-time item, standalone profit before tax declined about 46% to Rs 665 lacs from Rs 1,243 lacs, indicating pressure on core operations. The board also appointed Mr. Mayank Bhandari as an Additional Non-Executive Independent Director for two years. The statutory auditor B. Chhawchharia & Co. issued an unqualified limited review report on both standalone and consolidated results.
The steep revenue fall and core profit compression may weigh on near-term stock sentiment. However, the headline PAT comparison is distorted by a one-time subsidiary dividend booked in Q1 FY25, so the underlying decline is meaningfully smaller than it first appears. Investors should focus on the ex-exceptional earnings trajectory and watch for a recovery in subsequent quarters.
