Bank of Maharashtra reported standalone net profit of Rs. 1,779 crore for Q3 FY26, up about 26% from Rs. 1,406 crore in the same quarter last year. Total income rose to Rs. 8,277 crore from Rs. 7,112 crore. Asset quality continued to improve, with gross NPAs falling to 1.60% (from 1.80%) and net NPAs dropping to 0.15% (from 0.20%). The Board declared an interim dividend of Rs. 1 per share (10% on face value of Rs. 10). The Government of India also completed an Offer for Sale of 6% stake, bringing its holding to 73.60% and meeting the 25% minimum public shareholding rule. Auditors gave an unmodified review opinion but flagged an emphasis of matter regarding insufficient independent directors on the Board and the Rs. 1,200 crore COVID-19 contingency provision still being held.
Strong profit growth, falling NPAs, and a dividend declaration are positive signals for shareholders. However, the government OFS completion means more floating shares in the market, and the lack of an independent director quorum is a governance concern flagged by auditors.
