Bansal Wire Industries received a revised order from the Joint Commissioner of SGST, Ghaziabad, significantly reducing its GST tax liability for FY 2023-24. The original demand of Rs. 669.72 Lacs (about Rs. 6.70 crore) has been cut down to Rs. 39.88 Lacs (about Rs. 40 lakhs), along with equivalent penalty and applicable interest — a reduction of over 94%. The issues pertained to alleged E-way bill irregularities, excess input tax credit claims, and non-payment of tax on sale of RODTEP licenses. After the company submitted its response with supporting documents, the tax authority revised the liability. The company still plans to file an appeal before the appropriate appellate authority to seek further relief. The company has stated there is no material impact on its financials, operations, or other activities.
This is largely a positive outcome for shareholders, as the tax demand has been drastically reduced after the company's response. While the final liability is still pending appeal, the sharp cut in the assessed amount reduces the worst-case financial exposure considerably.
