BHEL received an order from the Chennai Air Cargo customs authority demanding about Rs 9.29 lakh in total. This includes differential duty of Rs 3.56 lakh, interest of Rs 1.87 lakh, and penalty plus fine of Rs 3.86 lakh. The issue relates to wrong classification of goods under customs duty code 9026 instead of 9032. The company has 60 days to respond and is assessing whether to appeal.
Small one-time hit of about Rs 9.3 lakh; BHEL plans to appeal. Negligible impact for a large PSU.
