Biocon Limited has completed its Qualified Institutions Placement (QIP) and allotted 13,63,63,635 equity shares of face value ₹5 each at an issue price of ₹330 per share, raising approximately ₹4,500 crore (₹45,000 million). The issue opened on June 16, 2025 and closed on June 19, 2025, with allotment approved by the Fund Raising Committee on the closing day. The price includes a premium of ₹325 per share over face value. Following the allotment, the company's paid-up equity share capital has risen from ₹600.30 crore to ₹668.48 crore. Prominent institutional investors including ICICI Prudential funds, SBI Mutual Fund, HDFC Life Insurance, Aditya Birla Sun Life, Nippon India, Mirae Asset, and Franklin Templeton participated in the issue, with several funds allotted more than 5% of the offering.
The QIP strengthens Biocon's balance sheet with fresh capital of ~₹4,500 crore, diluting existing shareholders by roughly 11.4% (based on the increased share count). The participation of marquee domestic mutual funds and insurers signals institutional confidence, though the share price may see short-term pressure due to dilution. Existing shareholders should watch how the company deploys this capital, given it adds to a sizeable fundraising.
