Birla Cable has informed the exchanges that the European Commission has imposed a definitive Countervailing Duty (CVD) of 5.40% on imports of single mode optical fibre cables originating in India, effective 12 June 2025. On the positive side, the anti-dumping duty on the company's exports was reduced from 6.90% to 2.90%, following representations made by the company. The combined duty now stands at 8.30% (compared to 6.90% earlier), which is a slight increase in the overall levy. The company has stated that no violation has been alleged against it and the financial impact is currently unascertainable.
A modest headwind for EU-bound exports due to a 1.40 percentage point rise in the combined duty, partially offset by the company's successful effort to lower the anti-dumping component. Near-term earnings impact on the EU business remains unclear pending assessment.
