Life Insurance Corporation of India (LIC) has disclosed purchase of 1.64 crore additional shares (2.036%) of Cipla through open market transactions between 27 November 2025 and 18 February 2026. LIC is not part of the promoter group. Before this acquisition LIC held 5.69 crore shares (7.055%) and after the purchase its holding stands at 7.34 crore shares, equal to 9.091% of Cipla's equity capital. The acquisition was carried out via market purchases and the filing is under SEBI's SAST Regulation 29(2) which applies to shareholders holding more than 5%.
This is a meaningful institutional accumulation by a major domestic insurer, pushing LIC close to the 10% disclosure threshold — a near-2% stake addition over roughly three months signals strong conviction in Cipla and may support sentiment around the stock.
