The President of India, acting through the Ministry of Coal, is selling up to 1% stake (61.6 million shares) in Coal India Limited through an Offer for Sale (OFS) on the stock exchange. Non-Retail Investors can bid on May 27, 2026 (T day), while Retail Investors and Employees can participate on May 29, 2026 (T+1 day). The floor price is INR 412 per share. There is no retail discount mentioned (nil). The government has the option to additionally sell another 1% (oversubscription option). Up to 25,000 shares are reserved for eligible employees. The offer is being managed through five brokers including Axis Capital, ICICI Securities, JM Financial, Kotak Securities, and SBI CAP Securities.
This is a routine government divestment of Coal India, reducing its stake from a very large majority position. The 1% stake sale at floor price of INR 412 will raise approximately INR 2,540 crore at base size. No major direct impact on the company's operations, though it signals continued reduction in government holding.
