Cyient Limited has informed exchanges that the National Company Law Tribunal (NCLT), Bengaluru bench has admitted an insolvency petition (CP (IB) No. 99/BB/2024) against Infotech HAL Limited, a 50:50 joint venture between Cyient and Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL). The petition was filed by Infotech HAL itself under Section 10 of the Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code, 2016, indicating the JV itself acknowledged inability to pay its debts. The NCLT has ordered commencement of the Corporate Insolvency Resolution Process (CIRP) and appointed Mr. Vasudevan Gopu as the Interim Resolution Professional. This follows a prior disclosure made by Cyient on 20 March 2024 regarding the JV's financial troubles.
This is a negative development for Cyient shareholders, as its JV entity is now formally entering insolvency, which could result in write-downs of Cyient's investment and loss of expected returns from the JV. The stock may see short-term pressure, though the limited impact on Cyient's standalone business (since it's a JV, not a subsidiary) may cushion the blow.
