Dodla Dairy had filed a writ petition in the Karnataka High Court challenging GST orders from July 2022 and April 2023 that classified flavored milk under a higher 12% tax slab. The High Court ruled in the company's favor, quashing those orders and holding that flavored milk should be taxed at the lower 5% rate. The court has also directed a refund of taxes already paid under protest, with applicable interest, within 3 months. As a result, the company will reverse a provision of INR 2.03 crores and is eligible for a refund of INR 1.47 crores in taxes paid, plus interest.
This is a positive outcome for shareholders — Dodla Dairy wins a tax dispute that benefits it both ways: a one-time boost from reversing the excess provision and an incoming refund plus interest, improving cash flow with no operational disruption.
