ESAF Small Finance Bank reported Q1 FY26 results showing a sharp pivot toward secured lending, with secured loan disbursements jumping 142.4% year-on-year to ₹6,963 crore and gold loans growing 106% to ₹6,674 crore. The bank posted a net loss of ₹81 crore in Q1 FY26 compared to a profit of ₹63 crore in Q1 FY25, though losses narrowed from ₹183 crore in the previous quarter. CASA deposits rose 14.2% YoY to ₹5,628 crore, pushing the CASA ratio to 24.8%, while total deposits grew 8.7% YoY to ₹22,698 crore. Provisions of ₹234 crore were set aside for stressed assets, mainly in the unsecured/microfinance book, and Net NPA stood at 3.8% with PCR at 73.2%. The bank added 3.5 lakh new customers, taking the total base to 95.8 lakh, and CRAR remained healthy at 22.7%.
Mixed signals for shareholders: strong growth in secured disbursements and CASA is positive, but continued losses driven by microfinance stress and higher provisions may weigh on near-term sentiment. The narrowing sequential loss and improving asset quality metrics suggest a turnaround in progress, though profitability recovery remains key to watch.
