Central GST authority has imposed a demand order on GE Power India for alleged non-reporting of GST on advances received for specified contracts in FY 2018-2021. Order includes tax of about Rs 7.8 lakh, interest of about Rs 9.5 crore, and penalty of about Rs 32 crore, totaling roughly Rs 41.6 crore. Company says GST liability was already paid when invoices were issued. GE Power plans to appeal the order.
Material adverse tax demand, but appeal pending. Outcome uncertain for shareholders.
