Godfrey Phillips India reported strong Q1 FY26 results with standalone revenue from operations rising about 34% year-on-year to Rs. 1,807 crore, driven by the Cigarettes, Tobacco and related Products segment. Net profit from continuing operations grew roughly 31% to Rs. 365 crore, with EPS of Rs. 70.20 versus Rs. 53.74 a year ago. The Board approved a generous 2:1 bonus issue (2 new shares for every 1 held), funded from general reserves and retained earnings, with a record date of 16 September 2025. The Board also fixed 22 August 2025 as the record date for the final dividend of Rs. 60 per share for FY25, subject to shareholder approval at the 88th AGM on 4 September 2025. The company is set to double its authorised share capital to Rs. 50 crore to accommodate the bonus issue. Prior period figures were restated to reflect the exit from the 24Seven retail business, which is now shown as a discontinued operation.
The combination of strong profit growth, a 2:1 bonus issue, and a Rs. 60 dividend is a clear positive for shareholders. The bonus issue will triple the share count, so the stock price is expected to adjust lower on the ex-date, but each shareholder's total value remains unchanged. The dividend and bonus reward signal strong cash generation and confidence in the core tobacco business.
