Hindustan Motors reported that on July 11, 2025, officials including the Additional District Magistrate of Hooghly, accompanied by police, forcibly entered and took possession of its Uttarpara factory premises in Hooghly district. The seized assets include machinery, equipment, documents, licensed weapons, and a Customs Warehouse. The action was taken despite a Special Leave Petition (SLP) pending before the Supreme Court of India. The West Bengal cabinet had earlier decided to hand over a 40-acre plot of this land to Titagarh Rail Systems Ltd on a 99-year lease for Vande Bharat sleeper train production. The company has filed formal protests with the West Bengal government's Land and Land Reforms Department and plans to urgently mention the SLP before the Supreme Court.
This is a highly adverse event for shareholders — the company's primary manufacturing facility has been forcibly taken over by the state government while its legal challenge is still pending in the Supreme Court. Near-term operations at the Uttarpara plant face serious disruption, and the outcome of the Supreme Court hearing on July 14, 2025 will be critical for the company's property rights and future valuation.
