IREDA has signed a Facility Agreement with Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation (SMBC) Singapore Branch on March 30, 2026, to raise an External Commercial Borrowing (ECB) of JPY 28 billion (approximately ₹1,500+ crore equivalent), which includes a Green Shoe Option of JPY 12 billion. The loan is a 5-year long-term unsecured facility, with SMBC acting as the Mandated Lead Arranger and Bookrunner. The loan amount is yet to be drawn, and there are currently no outstanding amounts under this facility. The borrowing is not a related-party transaction and is being raised to support IREDA's renewable energy financing activities.
This is a positive development for IREDA as it diversifies funding sources by tapping international debt markets via a top-tier Japanese bank, potentially at competitive rates. The fresh ECB capacity will boost IREDA's lending headroom for renewable energy projects, supporting business growth, though actual disbursement and interest costs will determine the eventual impact on margins.
