J&K Bank reported Q1 FY26 standalone net profit of Rs 484.84 Cr, up 16.7% YoY from Rs 415.49 Cr. Net Interest Income grew 7% YoY to Rs 1,465.43 Cr while other income jumped 29% to Rs 250.30 Cr. Return on Assets improved to 1.17% from 1.08% YoY. Gross NPA ratio came in at 3.50% vs 3.91% YoY, and Net NPA stood at 0.82%. Total deposits stood at Rs 1.48 lakh Cr while advances were Rs 1.01 lakh Cr. Capital Adequacy Ratio (Basel III) was 16.29%. The auditor issued an unmodified review opinion but flagged three Emphasis of Matter items, including a Rs 87.47 Cr impairment on the bank's investment in J&K Grameen Bank (up from Rs 48.89 Cr last quarter) and a pending Rs 139.62 Cr dispute over SBI's shareholding in the merged Ellaquai Dehati Bank.
Decent quarterly earnings with steady profit growth, improving NIM/Roa, and stable asset quality are positives for shareholders. However, auditor's emphasis of matter on associate bank losses and ongoing SBI shareholding dispute create some near-term overhang and warrant close monitoring.
