Akzo Nobel India (maker of Dulux Paints) reported Q1 FY2025-26 results for the quarter ended June 30, 2025. Revenue from operations fell about 4% year-on-year to Rs. 995.1 crore, while net profit dropped around 21% to Rs. 91 crore, with the company blaming weak consumer demand and intense competition in the retail paints business. Operating profit (EBIT) declined 21% as margins came under pressure, even as the B2B segment continued to grow. The Board declared a one-time special interim dividend of Rs. 156 per share (record date August 11, 2025), largely funded by proceeds from the recently completed slump sale of the Powder Coatings and International Research Center businesses to its Dutch parent group for about Rs. 2,143 crore. The company also completed the purchase of decorative paints intellectual property rights from related parties for Rs. 1,152 crore, and booked a Rs. 51 lakh gain from selling a leasehold property in Navi Mumbai.
Short-term, shareholders benefit from a substantial one-time dividend payout worth roughly Rs. 710 crore, but the core business is clearly under pressure with both revenue and profits declining sharply. The stock may react positively to the dividend but negatively to the weak operational performance and margin compression in retail paints.
