JSW Energy successfully completed a ₹4,000 crore QIP, allotting 76.19 million equity shares at ₹525 per share (premium of ₹515 over face value of ₹10). The issue was priced at a 1.69% discount (₹9.05) to the floor price of ₹534.05. Two major investors dominated the placement: SBI Equity Hybrid Fund received 48.4% of the issue (36.9 million shares) and GQG Partners Emerging Markets Equity Fund received 24.1% (18.4 million shares). Global players including Blackrock, alongside leading domestic mutual funds and insurance companies, participated. The company noted this was its second equity raise since listing in 2010. Post-allotment, paid-up capital increased from ₹1,757.29 crore to ₹1,833.48 crore.
The QIP brings ₹4,000 crore of fresh equity, which combined with promoter preferential allotment and JSW Steel share monetisation (₹3,150 crore) will reduce net leverage and strengthen the balance sheet, positioning JSW Energy as one of the most robustly capitalised independent power producers in India.
