Kanco Tea & Industries reported a strong turnaround in Q1 FY26. Standalone revenue from operations jumped to ₹1,312 lakhs from ₹803 lakhs in Q1 FY25 (around 63% growth), with total income rising to ₹1,359 lakhs. The company swung from a standalone loss after tax of ₹(682) lakhs in Q1 FY25 to a profit of ₹211 lakhs in Q1 FY26. Standalone EPS improved from ₹(16.60) to ₹4.12. On a consolidated basis (including wholly-owned subsidiary Winnow Investments), revenue was ₹1,359 lakhs and PAT was ₹223 lakhs with EPS of ₹4.35, versus a loss of ₹(678) lakhs a year earlier. The board noted the tea business is seasonal, so quarterly numbers are not indicative of full-year results. The auditor (NKSJ & Associates) flagged that the company has not made a provision for income tax for the quarter, citing the seasonal nature of the business — this will be ascertained at year-end.
A clear swing from loss to profit with strong revenue growth is a positive signal for shareholders, though tea-sector results are seasonal and Q1 alone should not be over-interpreted. The auditor's observation on tax provisioning is an attention item but not a qualified opinion, and is consistent with industry practice.
