Laxmi Organic Industries has updated on two ongoing legal matters against Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (MSEDCL). First, the Bombay High Court dismissed the company's Writ Petition (No. 14504 of 2025), which had challenged MSEDCL's continued levy of wheeling charges, wheeling losses, and transmission charges/losses. However, the court granted the company liberty to approach the Maharashtra Electricity Regulatory Commission (MERC), and the company has already filed a new petition there (Case No. 137/AD/2025). Second, MSEDCL's Special Leave Petition (No. 61237 of 2024) challenging a favorable October 2024 order from the electricity appellate tribunal (APTEL) remains pending before the Supreme Court, with no hearing date set. The financial impact of these charges and the outcome of the pending matters are material to the company's operating costs.
The High Court dismissal is a setback in the company's attempt to avoid MSEDCL's electricity-related charges, potentially impacting its cost structure if relief is not eventually granted. However, the company has an alternative route via MERC and still benefits from the pending APTEL order that is being challenged at the Supreme Court. Shareholders should monitor MERC and Supreme Court hearings, as the outcome could materially affect operating expenses.
