Meesho Limited has received an Assessment Order from the Income Tax Department for Assessment Year 2023-24 along with a demand notice dated March 5, 2026 (received on March 6, 2026). The tax demand aggregates to approximately ₹1,499.74 crore (about ₹1,500 crore), including applicable interest, based on certain additions and adjustments made to the company's reported income. The company has stated that it does not concur with the observations and adjustments, and is taking legal steps to contest the order. A similar demand for the prior Assessment Year 2022-23, which was disclosed in Meesho's December 2025 IPO prospectus, is currently under an interim stay granted by the Karnataka High Court. The company has stated that the current order and demand notice do not have any major adverse impact on its financial position or operations.
While the ₹1,500 crore tax demand is sizeable on paper, the company is actively contesting it and has a precedent of securing a court stay on a similar prior-year demand. Short-term stock reaction may be negative on headline risk, but the matter is unlikely to result in an immediate cash outflow as the company pursues legal remedies.
