Orient Green Power Company (OGPL) has approved the release of 23,19,78,323 preference shares (51% of its preference shareholding) in subsidiary Beta Wind Farm Private Limited (BETA) that were previously pledged in favour of promoter SVL Limited. The same shares will now be pledged in favour of Indian Renewable Energy Development Agency Limited (IREDA) against loans extended to BETA, in line with the loan agreement covenants. The Investment/Banking/Borrowing Committee (IBBC) approved this change at its meeting on June 24, 2025. The company has stated the impact on the listed entity is Nil.
This is essentially a reshuffle of collateral — shares move from being pledged to a promoter (SVL) to being pledged to a government lender (IREDA). For shareholders, the key takeaway is that BETA's loan obligations are now being secured directly with IREDA, reducing the promoter's pledge exposure on this asset, with no stated financial impact on OGPL.
