South Asian Enterprises reported a steep standalone loss of Rs. 333.53 lakhs for FY25 versus a loss of Rs. 13.10 lakhs in FY24, driven by a Rs. 318.52 lakhs exceptional impairment charge related to its former subsidiary Chai Thela Private Limited (CTPL). Standalone revenue from operations fell sharply to Rs. 25.06 lakhs from Rs. 102.51 lakhs a year earlier. On a consolidated basis, the company swung to a profit after tax of Rs. 21.76 lakhs (FY25) from a loss of Rs. 134.72 lakhs (FY24), with Rs. 104.04 lakhs attributable to shareholders after a Rs. 160.87 lakhs goodwill impairment. CTPL, which was incurring continuous losses and unable to repay its loans, ceased to be a subsidiary on 27 March 2025 after shareholders approved the sale of the entire stake. The auditor (Agiwal & Associates) issued an unmodified/clean opinion on both standalone and consolidated results.
Short-term negative sentiment is likely due to the heavy impairment loss and weak standalone revenue, but the clean audit opinion and removal of the loss-making subsidiary could be seen as a positive reset for future quarters.
