The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) has approved enhanced delegation of powers to PowerGrid under the Maharatna CPSE guidelines. This raises the permissible equity investment limit per subsidiary from Rs. 5,000 crore to Rs. 7,500 crore, while keeping the overall cap at 15% of the company's net worth unchanged. The move is aimed at helping PowerGrid, the country's largest transmission service provider, expand investment in its core business and support evacuation of renewable energy toward the 500 GW non-fossil target. It will also allow PowerGrid to bid more aggressively for capital-intensive UHVAC and HVDC transmission projects and compete in Tariff Based Competitive Bidding (TBCB) for critical projects.
Positive for shareholders — PowerGrid gets greater financial flexibility to invest in subsidiaries and pursue larger transmission projects, which could drive future revenue and order book growth. The enhanced delegation signals stronger government backing but does not immediately change earnings or capital structure.
