Ruchi Infrastructure has disclosed two tax-related demands received on 26th June 2025. The first is a West Bengal VAT demand of Rs. 44.23 lakhs plus interest of Rs. 24.42 lakhs for assessment period 2014-15, arising from a Calcutta High Court ruling in the Pepsico India matter. The second is a customs duty demand of Rs. 17.30 lakhs (plus interest) and a Rs. 11 lakhs redemption fine under Section 125 of the Customs Act, 1962, related to a DEPB license used in FY 2003-04. The company is contesting both orders — the customs matter will be appealed before CESTAT. Importantly, the Supreme Court has passed an interim order protecting affected parties (including the company) from any coercive action in the West Bengal VAT case.
The combined financial exposure is around Rs. 97 lakhs (including interest), which is relatively small and unlikely to materially impact the company or its stock. With the Supreme Court's interim stay against coercive action and the company actively contesting both demands, near-term financial risk appears limited.
