S Chand and Company has reported a weak Q1 FY26, swinging from profit to loss on a standalone basis. Standalone revenue from operations fell to ₹426.86 million from ₹533.83 million a year ago (down ~20% YoY), and the company posted a standalone loss of ₹27.78 million versus a profit of ₹30.79 million in Q1 FY25. On a consolidated basis, revenue declined to ₹1,026.21 million from ₹1,106.61 million, with the net loss widening to ₹140.66 million (vs ₹29.94 million loss YoY). The auditor (Walker Chandiok & Co LLP) issued an unmodified review opinion on both sets of results. The company notes this is seasonally the weakest quarter, as most textbook sales are concentrated in Q4 (January–March) ahead of the new academic session.
Shareholders should note a sharp deterioration in performance with both revenue and profit turning negative, though much of this is attributable to seasonality in the publishing business. The clean audit opinion is reassuring, but the wide consolidated loss and continued weakness in subsidiaries may weigh on near-term sentiment.
