Sapphire Foods India Limited received a favorable order from the Income Tax Appellate Tribunal (ITAT), Mumbai dated 7th November 2025, ruling that interest under Section 201(1A) of the Income Tax Act should be restricted to the date of actual payment of tax. Following this, the Assessing Officer passed an Order Giving Effect on 30th December 2025 covering 7 assessment years (AY 2016-17 and AY 2018-19 to AY 2023-24). As a result, the company's interest liability dropped sharply from Rs. 17.04 crore to just Rs. 25.13 lakh — a reduction of nearly 98.5%. This is a significant financial relief for the company.
Positive for shareholders — the favorable ITAT ruling drastically reduces the company's tax-related interest liability by about Rs. 16.79 crore, strengthening its financial position. This could provide a one-time boost to earnings depending on how the amount was previously provisioned.
