SEBI has imposed a monetary penalty of ₹2,00,000 (Rupees Two Lakh) on SMC Global Securities Limited under Section 15HB of the SEBI Act, following an adjudication order dated 21st August 2025. The penalty relates to a joint inspection by SEBI and stock exchanges on June 18-19, 2024, where 19 of the company's NSE trading terminals were found operating from locations different from those declared to the exchange. Allegations regarding 3 MCX and 2 NCDEX terminals having incorrect address details were dismissed by the Adjudicating Officer as typographical errors. The company had argued these were procedural lapses during address shifting of branches, but SEBI did not fully accept this defence for the NSE terminals. SMC Global has been given 45 days to pay the penalty, and SEBI noted the company has faced multiple prior regulatory actions for similar compliance issues.
The penalty amount of ₹2 lakh is relatively small and is unlikely to materially impact the company's financials or operations. However, this is the sixth regulatory action against SMC Global from SEBI, with past penalties ranging from warnings to a 3-month business restriction in 2013, which may weigh on investor confidence regarding the company's compliance standards and internal controls.
