Sun Pharma and U.S.-based Incyte Corporation have entered into a settlement and license agreement to end their patent dispute over LEQSELVI™ (deuruxolitinib), a drug used to treat alopecia areata. Under the deal, both parties will seek dismissal of the pending case in the U.S. District Court of New Jersey and release each other from all related claims. Incyte has granted Sun a limited, non-exclusive license to its U.S. patents covering oral deuruxolitinib for non-hematology-oncology uses including alopecia areata. Sun will pay Incyte an upfront fee plus ongoing royalties until the patents expire, while the rest of the deal terms remain confidential.
This removes a major litigation overhang for Sun Pharma's LEQSELVI franchise in the U.S. market, allowing continued sales for alopecia areata, though the company will bear royalty costs. Investors may view the resolution positively as it eliminates court-case uncertainty, but the undisclosed financial terms could draw scrutiny.
