The Great Eastern Shipping Company (GESHIP) announced audited Q4 and FY25 (year ended March 31, 2025) results along with a fourth interim dividend of Rs. 5.40 per share, taking total interim dividends for FY25 to Rs. 29.70 per share. Consolidated revenue for the year rose marginally to Rs. 5,322.54 crores from Rs. 5,255.17 crores, but net profit declined to Rs. 2,344.26 crores from Rs. 2,614.18 crores. The quarter was notably weak: Q4 revenue fell about 18% YoY to Rs. 1,223.04 crores and profit after tax dropped nearly 60% YoY to Rs. 363.09 crores. The company booked a ship impairment charge of Rs. 61.06 crores (versus a Rs. 13.03 crore reversal last year) and saw operating margin compress to 51.44% from 57.25%. The board also approved re-appointments of Mr. Bharat K. Sheth as Deputy Chairman & MD and Mr. G. Shivakumar as Executive Director for 5-year terms, and appointed new secretarial auditors. Deloitte Haskins & Sells LLP issued an unmodified (clean) audit opinion.
Weak Q4 numbers and margin compression could pressure the stock in the near term, but the strong balance sheet (debt-equity at just 0.15x, net cash position with Rs. 4,112 crores in cash) and a healthy total dividend of Rs. 29.70 per share should provide some support to shareholder returns.
