Update on NCLT hearing-SBI Vs Future Consumer Limited
Awaiting price reaction for this filing.
State Bank of India has filed an insolvency case against Future Consumer at the NCLT Mumbai bench over an outstanding debt. At the recent hearing, SBI's counsel presented sanction letters, recall notice, NESL report and a revival letter showing the company had authenticated the debt. The company's counsel pushed for a deferral, citing an ongoing arbitration with a JV partner from which a positive outcome is expected, and argued that another related matter (Resurgent matter) involving the question of whether the company qualifies as an NBFC is still pending before the same bench. The NCLT has adjourned the matter to 8th June 2026 and directed the company to file its written submission before the next date.
This is a negative signal for shareholders — SBI, a major public-sector lender, has initiated insolvency proceedings over a defaulted debt, and the next hearing could be significant. The company is relying on an external arbitration outcome and procedural delays to buy time, but a potential admission of insolvency remains a key risk.
