Voltas has received an order from the Commissioner of Customs (JNCH Nhava Sheva) dated 20th March 2026, received on 27th March 2026, alleging mis-classification of certain imported goods imported between 14th June 2019 and 21st July 2022. The customs authority has demanded differential customs duty of approximately ₹10.76 crores along with applicable interest, and imposed a penalty of about ₹12.76 crores under the Customs Act, 1962. The combined potential exposure is roughly ₹23.5 crores. The company has stated it is analysing the order and plans to file an appeal before CESTAT (Customs, Excise and Service Tax Appellate Tribunal). Voltas has clarified that there is no material impact on its financials, operations, or other activities.
While the combined duty demand and penalty of around ₹23.5 crores is sizeable, Voltas has stated this will not have a material impact and intends to appeal. Near-term stock reaction may be muted but contingent on the CESTAT appeal outcome; a sustained adverse ruling could pressure earnings.
