How we write results articles

Our results articles are written by the MarketPing Results Desk: software we built that reads a company’s filed results and an AI writer that drafts the text. This page sets out how the two work together, and what we do so that every number you read is one the company actually filed.

Where the numbers come from

Every listed company files its quarterly results with NSE or BSE, including a machine-readable copy of the figures (XBRL). We take revenue, costs, profit, earnings per share, the balance sheet, the cash flow and the reported business segments from that filing. Growth rates, margins and changes are calculated by our software from those figures. Growth is shown only when both figures are positive; a move from a loss to a profit is said in words.

The share price moves are MarketPing’s own measurements, from the price when the filing appeared and from the previous close, set against the median move of the company’s industry. The industry comparison uses the filed results of the other companies in the same industry that have reported the same quarter.

What the AI does, and what it is not allowed to do

An AI model writes the summary, the key points and the paragraphs. It is given the calculated figures and the text of the company’s own filings (the results, the board’s decisions, the earnings call or investor presentation) and nothing else. It is told never to calculate a new number.

Then a checker reads every figure in the AI’s text. A figure must match one we calculated or appear in the filing itself. A paragraph with any figure it cannot trace is removed before publication; if too much is removed, the article is not published at all. The headline, the headings, the tables, the charts and the quick answers are not written by the AI; our software builds them directly from the figures.

What we do not do

  • We do not give investment advice, ratings, target prices or buy and sell calls.
  • We do not guess why a figure moved. A reason appears only when the company’s filing or its management gives one, and it is attributed to them.
  • We do not publish an article before the company’s filed figures are available.

Updates and corrections

An article is updated in place when new information arrives: the share price reaction after the market closes, the earnings call a few days later, or a corrected filing. The page then shows the date it was last updated. If you find an error, please tell us through support and we will correct it.
