Intraday Profit Calculator
The difference between buy and sell price is not what you take home. Every intraday equity trade pays brokerage (twice), STT on the sell side, exchange transaction charges, SEBI fees, stamp duty on the buy side, and GST on top of the service charges. On thin scalps, these costs are the difference between a winning and losing day.
Enter the trade and your brokerage plan; the calculator itemises every charge, shows the net P&L, and — most usefully — the breakeven move: how far the price must go in your favour before rupee one of profit appears.
How it works
- Gross P&L = (sell − buy) × quantity.
- Charges (FY 2026-27): STT 0.025% on sell, stamp duty 0.003% on buy, exchange txn charge ≈0.00297% (NSE) both sides, SEBI ₹10/crore, GST 18% on brokerage + exchange + SEBI.
- Net P&L = gross − total charges; breakeven = the sell price where net is exactly zero.
Frequently asked questions
Which charges apply to intraday trades?
Brokerage on both orders, STT at 0.025% on the sell value only, exchange transaction charges and SEBI fees on both sides, stamp duty at 0.003% on the buy side, and 18% GST on brokerage, exchange and SEBI charges. No DP charge — intraday never touches your demat account.
Why do small scalps lose money even when I'm right?
Because charges are near-fixed per trade while a scalp's gross edge is tiny. On a ₹20-brokerage plan, a 500-share trade at ₹250 pays roughly ₹75–90 in total costs — about 0.06–0.07% of turnover. If your average winner is a 0.1% move, costs eat most of it. The breakeven-move number makes this visible before you trade.
How is intraday profit taxed?
Intraday equity is speculative business income, not capital gains — it is added to your income and taxed at your slab rate, and must be reported as business income in the ITR. Losses can be set off only against speculative gains, carried forward four years. (F&O, by contrast, is non-speculative business income.)
Are the charge rates exact?
STT, stamp duty and SEBI fees are statutory and exact. Exchange transaction charges differ slightly by exchange (NSE ≈0.00297%, BSE ≈0.00375%) and brokers occasionally add small levies (IPFT ~₹10/crore on NSE), so your contract note may differ by a few paise per order.
