Adani Power Limited has completed the acquisition of Vidarbha Industries Power Limited (VIPL) for an aggregate consideration of INR 4,000 crore. VIPL was a stressed asset undergoing corporate insolvency resolution and was acquired through a resolution plan approved by the NCLT Mumbai Bench on June 18, 2025, implemented on July 7, 2025. The deal gives Adani Power a 2x300 MW coal-fired power plant in Butibori, Nagpur, Maharashtra, on a debt-free basis, making VIPL its wholly owned subsidiary. Adani Power's operating capacity now stands at 18,150 MW, with a target of reaching 30,670 MW by 2029-30.
This acquisition strengthens Adani Power's position as India's largest private thermal power producer by adding 600 MW of operational capacity without adding debt, supporting future revenue growth. Shareholders should note the INR 4,000 crore cash outlay and the company's larger expansion pipeline, which may keep capital expenditure elevated in the near term.
