Alkem Laboratories, through its wholly-owned subsidiary Alkem Medtech, has made a binding offer to acquire between 51% and 55% of Swiss medical device company Occlutech Holding AG for a total equity value of EUR 180.70 million (~₹1,785 Cr), paid in cash. Occlutech develops minimally invasive cardiac implants for congenital heart defects, stroke prevention, and heart failure, and reported turnover of EUR 43.95 Mn in 2024 (growing to ~EUR 49.38 Mn estimated for 2025), though it remains loss-making at the net level. The deal marks Alkem's entry into the advanced cardiovascular devices segment, beyond its core pharma business, and is expected to close by June 30, 2026, subject to FDI clearances in Italy and Sweden and a filing in France.
This is a significant, debt-funded diversification move into medical devices for Alkem. The target is loss-making at the net level, so near-term EPS dilution is possible, but the deal gives Alkem access to a high-growth global cardiac implant franchise. Short-term stock reaction may be mixed given the size of the outlay and integration risk.
