Bank of Baroda has informed stock exchanges about a Government of India gazette notification dated April 7, 2025 directing the amalgamation of several Regional Rural Banks (RRBs), with the merger effective from May 1, 2025. In Gujarat, Baroda Gujarat Gramin Bank and Saurashtra Gramin Bank will merge into a new Gujarat Gramin Bank with Bank of Baroda as sponsor. In Rajasthan, Baroda Rajasthan Kshetriya Gramin Bank will merge with Rajasthan Marudhara Gramin Bank into Rajasthan Gramin Bank, sponsored by SBI. In Uttar Pradesh, Baroda U P Bank will merge with Aryavart Bank and Prathama U P Gramin Bank into Uttar Pradesh Gramin Bank, with Bank of Baroda as sponsor. Each new RRB will have an authorised capital of Rs 2,000 crore, with shareholding split among Central Government, State Government and the Sponsor Bank in a 50:15:35 ratio.
This is a government-driven consolidation of RRBs where Bank of Baroda acts as sponsor bank, so the direct financial impact on Bank of Baroda's own balance sheet is limited. Shareholders should note that the bank is consolidating its rural banking sponsorship footprint, but its core commercial banking operations remain unaffected.
